NL / EN
Matthias Konrad is a versatile Amsterdam-based trombonist with a background in both jazz and classical music, trained at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and further specialized in jazz improvisation at New York University. His musical journey took him from BuJazzO, led by Peter Herbolzheimer, to the stage of the legendary Blue Note in New York, where he studied with greats such as Robin Eubanks, Kenny Werner, and Brian Lynch.
As a performing musician, Matthias is active in studios and on stages with a wide range of artists and ensembles, including De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Di-Rect, Ellen ten Damme, Mathilde Santing, Ruben Hein, Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Clazz Ensemble, Marieke Jager, and The Kik. Since 2017, he has played a prominent role as the sole horn player in Ellen ten Damme's theater tours.
In addition to his work as a trombonist, Matthias composes and arranges for various ensembles, including his own ensemble SoWhat. His musical roots—from piano in his youth to trombone on international stages—make him a sought-after and inspiring force in the Dutch music scene.
